This is a message from ALERT LONG BEACH: Residents on the Peninsula are advised to prepare for high tides and swell activity that have the potential to create local area flooding on Friday, 9/4 through Tuesday, 9/8, with highest risk of flooding beginning Sunday through Tuesday. A combination of high tides, storm surge, surf, swell direction, and possible showers may produce higher-than-normal sea levels and wave activity. Beachgoers are urged to use extra caution in and around these areas. Stay off sand berms and avoid areas where heavy equipment is operating. Sand and sandbags are available for residents at the Lifeguard Station at 72nd Place. City crews will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Tuesday, 9/8 to assist the community as needed.

City crews are on scene reinforcing berms, distributing sandbags and assisting residents. City crews are continuing to ensure catch basins in flood-prone areas are clear of debris and pump stations and seawall plugs are functioning properly. Forecasts indicate that elevated evening high tides could continue through Tuesday, 9/8. Additional updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
