This is a message from Alert Long Beach:
Long Beach residents should prepare now for continued coastal impacts, including hazardous swell combined with high tides, as well as citywide impacts including the chance of light to moderate showers and high winds.
The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Los Angeles County through 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, with the greatest risk of flooding between 6 a.m. and noon on Saturday and Sunday. South-facing shorelines, including Long Beach’s, face the greatest risk. Community members in low-lying areas, including the Peninsula, Belmont Shore and Naples should prepare for potential localized flooding.
Take steps now to protect your property, including placing sandbags in vulnerable areas, securing outdoor belongings and preparing for potential flooding. Sand and sandbags are available at Fire Stations 7, 12, 13 and 14, and the Claremont Lot at 5400 E Ocean Blvd. Empty sandbags remain available at all neighborhood Fire Stations.
To protect public safety and allow emergency work to continue, vehicular access to the Peninsula is restricted to residents only. The City urges the public, if possible, to avoid the area while crews carry out necessary work.
Life safety remains the City's highest priority. All Long Beach residents should stay away from flooded or impacted areas, particularly the Peninsula, active work zones and unstable structures. Do not attempt to cross flooded areas. Follow all posted closures and directions from public safety personnel.
Residents are urged to remain alert to changing conditions and follow all emergency instructions. In the event of an immediate life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.
